it was my last completely innocent american thought

I was in a grocery aisle. I had a moment of wonderment, gratitude, pride. I thought how marvelous it was that I could go get food that was nontoxic and not spoiled. I remember including in this thought that it wasn't just government bodies, but businesspeople and my fellow shoppers, all contributing to this happy feeling of security.

It was maybe a week later that the poisoned Tylenol hit the news.

  1. Years ago a new product appeared on the grocery shelf. A heat and eat microwavable dinner box with the name Healthy Choice.
It said Healthy so I figured why not try it.
After heating it and taking the first bite all I could taste was the plastic tray it came in. After second bite I tossed it in the garbage and have never tried the brand again.

  2. Used to be you didn't have to freeze those, and... IF YOU DUMPED THEM OUT OF THE CONTAINER COMPLETELY to warm them, they were the very healthiest fast food alternative. I don't think that's true anymore.
