Social Security checks in the states with more bang for your buck are correspondingly lower... and, in most of those states, it's also almost impossible to find — at all, let alone pay for — not-poisonous food. So, whatever gains you think you might make, there's a serious loss inhering. Over all those miles back from Oklahoma a year ago I had the time to wonder if the tradeoff isn't as simple as, here, since we appreciate you dying slowly and expensively, we've lowered the price of the poison that makes it all happen.
