Don't go all preachy sanctimony on us, even when they're heroes, or maybe especially when they are heroes. Ruins the karma of their acts, subtracts from the good they did.
You might say, well, it's easier for a president to be a hero, and to that I say, well, he didn't get to be president by being sanctimonious about the good he did, he just kept on doing good, letting his actions speak for themselves... contrary to the oceans of propaganda midgets spew about him in their murderous envy.
And it isn't only presidents who can be heroes, though most of them aren't. No. There are regular mortals who can, and do, do it, too.
