I'd be in my office under a mound of consolatory daisies and empty quad breve cups, cranking out 500-page compendiums of construction notes against the dipshit foundation guys bungling the earthquake-proofing codes, testing the padlock on my inbox against dishonest pigs slipping in requests for me to crank out the interrogatories they forgot and hiding it down at the bottom of my pile.
It was already stupid with roof flashing thirty years ago. Of course, they can't do foundations anymore. It was already lawyers using caselaw that did NOT apply and getting away with it. It was already people suing Macy's for duping a drunk pilot to crash into it. It was already cops losing their shit and bashing a lady in the head with their maglites for... nobody ever figured out what for....
I used to bitch about pretty soon there was going to be nobody left who could actually do their job. The only people left alive would the ones who walked around flashing their job titles as credentials for a living.
