Back in the day, the huge fight between loggers and enviros, it was Georgia Pacific and Luisiana Pacific in Mendo World and Pacific Lumber Company in Humboldt. First two were pillagers. PalCo was sustainable logging, but it was looted by an arbitrageur and so all hell broke out in the Emerald Triangle, and not over dope. Over trees.

Nowadays, the Fisher family, billionaires, founders of The Gap clothing empire, own all the former LP land in Mendo World and all the former PalCo land in Humboldt. They're like PalCo was before the pillagers took over. Except for the brute fact that the former owners of both vast swaths of timberlands pillaged the properties, and there being little they can log, even carefully and sustainably, without the public going batshit crazy, they really are better land stewards than we had any right to expect.

They've EVEN hired serious mercenaries to keep the dangerous dope grower scenes, the ones even the cops are afraid to get near, off their timberlands... and THAT means fewer tress felled or poisoned to death, fewer innocent or guilty people being killed and bodies dumped near a highway, radically less toxins leaching into watercourses....

I'd have more sympathy for the people trying to cause trouble over logging these areas at all, even though the regrowth will be assured, but for the fact that we DID NOT prevent the pillagers when they were pillaging. We staged some stunts and circuses, but we did NOT go to where the activity could have been halted for real and get it halted for real. We LET those despicable fucks go weasel away in Sacramento to do what was against the law to do.

We did NOTHING about the corruption. Before, during or after it pillaged our timberlands. So, truly, MRC and HRC don't deserve this abuse.

pipe up any time....
