But this is completely usual stuff in Southern California. Has been my whole life. The neighborhoods being evacuated right now go through the same drill at least every ten years. Malibu has burned a bunch of times over the course of my life, but they just collect their insurance money and rebuild every time. It's spooky how little evidence of wildfire remains even a year later. It's just grass and brush and landscaping and stupidly expensive homes.
I remember being surprised to see a few mature trees there as long ago as 35 years, and those are almost certainly gone by now because there have been at least three big ones there since.
