Everybody has to find out the hard way and some, many, still don't get it. In fact, way too many never get it. Most have the idea somewhere along the line, but it doesn't manage to override their urges by then. So even though I do not approve of the use of psychedelics for spiritual practice, as one's whole spiritual practice, I think there is a great need for them to give alcoholics and drug addicts the determination to stop killing themselves.
It's been nearly fifty years since my only nibble on a raw peyote button, but it still ranks among my most sacred experiences. That is the imperative. People. Brainwashed civilians. Entrained minions. Humans have to have a good look at reality, the real one, before they can escape the claws of the killer delusions.
