Right off the bat:
Obama's campaign promises and election gave me faith that he would lead us toward fixing the problems he outlined in his quest for votes. Many Americans felt similarly. Unfortunately, shortly after assuming power, he closed the door on investigating systemic violations of law, deepened and expanded several abusive programs, and refused to spend the political capital to end the kind of human rights violations like we see in Guantanamo, where men still sit without charge.
he mentions something hugely resonant. You may recall that as the 2008 election neared I was saying that I didn't think this was going to turn out nearly as well as we'd hoped, but I was still certain he'd clean up the egregious affronts to the 4th Amendment. It never entered my head that he wouldn't....

Let alone that he would so immediately outdo Dubby and Fudd. He is definitely light years more suave about that shit than they could have dreamed of pulling off. There were vestigial bits of humanity left on their bones, no matter how evil they were. That problem has been resolved.

Ed Snowden is a hero.
