having been heartily ashamed of myself

I decided a new Red Queen brooch was just the thing for the gray dotted Swiss tunic. Mine has pockets, nice big ones, and I'm not sure where on it she will go, but she'll be a great reminder, a happy fine instead of a flogging for my momentary descent into unfeeling pomposity.

The more I think about it, the worse it gets. I mean, in fact, the fact that I could mistake cerebral palsy for the worst rider I'd ever seen is actually a tribute to her. Didn't even cross my mind she was anything but a heedless brat. It was only me wanting to go find out her FEI ranking so I could have a fit on my blog that showed me what an asshole I was being. Yes, it was only in the space of about two minutes, but, still. I should be able to see that shit for what it is long before two minutes have elapsed.

I'm blaming the frequencies. They have me working overtime to find alternatives and that's heavy going, makes me feel bleak, nothing to work with. Too much fruitlessness is bad for the mental poise. I should have used that time on new cat blogs or something, not let the futility touch my heart.

Anyway, my birthday approacheth yet again and since I can no longer pick someone on whom to lavish a fancy night out at a ritzy restaurant in celebration, I try to part my bills for long enough to get myself a present or two. Tunic and Red Queen. I don't know if I will wear Dead Writers or Woodsmoke Vanilla perfume with them, but I have an appointment to get my hair cut messier on that day. I don't know either where I will wear these items, smelling so fine and with hair that casual yet so chic... maybe to the woods, if it's not raining. I could try to guilt Derrick Jensen out of his hole, but I probably won't, and it will probably be raining.

...

I have the distinct feeling that now we will have the rainiest February of all time. That fits the profile these days. Maybe it's just my mind in its eternal quest for that sort of "symmetry" but I think it. I know we've had droughts before in the lower reaches of the state, but I'm trying to remember if I ever even heard of one this far north. I don't think so.

I'm sure there were years where it seemed relatively drought-like to the inhabitants, but I think this year is about as close as it's ever come here. I moved here in late 2005 and that winter was way entertaining. All the storms from the north were just grazing me on the bottom edge, and all the storms from the south were just grazing me from the top edge. All this palaver about these monster rain systems coming through, girding myself, and over and over it was just the sprinkly edges.

It's raining pretty big again tonight, and this is grand news.

But maybe next week will be mellow... maybe. Probably not. And it seems that the weather is supposed to be headed down to where they're dying for lack of it, but probably wouldn't be if they were not sending so much of theirs down to those fucks in LA and San Diego. I just heard another of them hassling someone about putting up with the weather in New York when they could live in LA and never deal with that crap.

He said it with deep self-assurance and total conviction, as though there were not Thing One wrong with such a proclamation. I really think we should cut them off. I don't know how they got the canal dug to send it down there in the first place, when we voted against it every single time it came up on the ballot, but it's time we did something about that.

I mean, far from unable to understand such heedlessness, I can't tell an Olympian with cerebral palsy from a rich brat who won't endure instruction. So you can believe me when I am yelping about how we need to do better. Maybe you think I'm selfish not to want to send our "extra" water down to the poor parched people in LA, and I certainly don't want them moving here, but I think it's only fair to the planet that they desalinate ocean water for their pools and gardens and tap water. I mean, if they don't want the rain, fine. Let them get their own another way.

In fact, I think we all should rethink the whole deal with water because the psychopaths are fixing to make it a commodity, and that is even more wrong than capitalism is... or... well... it is capitalism and capitalism kills everything. Everything.

Including my process.
