Seems to me leaving early was a good call, for many different reasons. The whole Russian stance on the Anglo-American shtick is open-to-sense-and-no-bullshit, so coming but leaving early underlines that. The psychopaths are well known for plotting unhappy things for anyone who underlines their bullshit, and so deviating from their plan is just plain old fashioned best practices.
