Acres, personnel, equipment, smoke... except the complex is now four fires because two of the southern three burned into one. My smoke headache is back full throttle, after getting yesterday off. InciWeb is slower'n a fried telephone modem so here's the gist:
GASQUET COMPLEX FIRESLooks like we got about 500 more people and some air support... along with about seven thousand more acres burned over the last couple days.
TOTAL FIRES: 4 | ACRES: 10,316 | STARTED: Lightning, 31 July 2015, 9pm | PERCENT CONTAINED: 20%
RESOURCES: Total Personnel: 778 | Hand Crews: 11 | Dozers: 8 | Engines: 55 | Air Tankers: 2 | Helicopters: 5 | Water Tenders: 15 | Overhead Personnel: 68 | Injuries: 5 to date
CURRENT SITUATION: A structure protection plan was put into place yesterday in the Paradise Flat and Rock Creek communities. We are working closely with local and state agencies to make sure all residents have been advised of this plan. A burnout operation on the Coon Fire could take place today. This may result in increased levels of smoke.... Fire crews are working hard to gain containment on the fires but are being hampered by the steep terrain and heavy fuels. An inversion is also hampering efforts from the air due to lack of visibility for the pilots.
FIRES: Bear – 2,603 acres | Coon – 3,595 acres | Peak – 3,402 acres | Feeder – 716 acres
The inversion brought cooler temperatures having been in the upper 50s and 60s last night, resulting in humidity recovery from 45% to 85%. Hot and dry weather is forecasted for the next several days. Due to the inversion layer, fire activity will continue to be moderate until ventilation occurs. With the continued hot and dry weather, burn periods will extend with the possibility of increased fire activity.
My head hurts too much to rant today. Opened my front door this morning and closed it right back up. Smelled like the fires were across the street. It was glorious foggy, but that's clearing off [the fog, not the smoke] fast and I'm probably going to have to seek treatment for aspirin addiction before this is over.
...
5pm — The clearing didn't translate into awful heat, I'm pleased to report, but there was a gentle with bursts of brisk breeze out today. I don't think that will have been great news for the fires, but it was great news for those dying from the smoke. Blew it off us. Asthma sufferers are upright and functional this afternoon.
always and any time....
