Nearly six weeks, not even 50% contained, clear indicators that they intend to let the Bear fire burn all the way to the streams, too, and that there's no expectation of an end before enough rain gets here to do the job.

In case you don't grok what I'm on about, in the logging business, there have been prohibitions against logging within a specified distance of watercourses and lakes for decades. It was a hard won concession to the fishing industry, because they could prove the need for shade and impeded sedimentation in the streams to keep fish populations healthy. The feds have thrown this out the window. They are not just ignoring it. They are purposely using those streams as firebreaks.
