north wind?

...

It is, contrary to the online weather people's nearest approximations, 87º here and there's over two more hours of heating before we're done for the day.

...

An hour later, it's 80º in my house and still much hotter outside. Opening my north windows because they're shaded and the air is moving. South, east, and west sides covered and closed. Nearly naked. Fan coming on shortly.

And, whatever, dudes, this is NOT natural... even if you buy the entire anthropogenic global warming shtick. It's anthropogenic, but not the way you think.

No. Really. The air is coming here from the Olympic Peninsula and Vancouver Island. There's also air from the northeast, but it's mostly stopped on the other side of the mountains. And it's lucky this scary air isn't too humid or I'd be dialing 911.

...

Half an hour later and it's 82º in here and on the north side of my house... the shady side. Every time I try to go out and check the neighbor's thermometer, it's still many degrees hotter out there and I don't want to open the door wide enough to let it all in here.

Besides, I'm barely covered and the neighbors have heart conditions.

...

3pm and my fan is on. It's 84º in here and it's raining in DEATH VALLEY.

...

Quarter after four and it's holding at 84º in my house and much hotter than that outside it.

...

Okay, coming on 5pm and the temperature in here and out there has balanced out at 85º. According to the station closest to me, which isn't that accurate for where I am, it hit 94º today. It could well have been that hot here, but I have put dark blankets up on all my south facing windows or closed the doors to the rooms with them and east and west facing ones. I did this because of the photophobia that nails me when I'm having one of my eye episodes, but left them up because this time of year the sun is lower and hotter from those sides and I'm thinking it gives better insulation.

White cloth blinds on the windows with dark blankets and towels covering them from the inside. So I'm thinking this has spared me at least 5º today and maybe as many as 9º. I'm thinking I'll hang bamboo blinds behind the white Japanese blinds against future heat waves and eyeball attacks. It could improve quality of life around here.

...

Quarter to six and it is 15º hotter here than in San Diego. It's 5º hotter than Death Valley. It's 68º in Seattle and 73º in Ozette!

IT'S HOTTER OVER THE OCEAN UP HERE RIGHT NOW THAN IT IS IN BAKERSFIELD!

always and any time....
