this could end up crucial to note

Or it might end up only confusing matters the more. I mean, I've been trying to make measurements off unreliable maps and none of them agree on exactly how far away the unreliable perimeter is from me either as the crow flies or as the topology dictates. So finding out about this little trick might be the thing for it... or, like I say, be just more bullshit to heap into the general shit-for-information age.

It has rained at least four good rains today. I am stoked about this. Nobody thought it would get any more exciting than a paltry sprinkle. All four were solid rain. Not heavy, except the last one, which was markedly more than the others. I have NO idea whether the water wetted the fire or the fire steamed the water any of those four times, but believe that at the very, very least it will have tamped down the flaring and delayed any solid advances on the ground for at least a day.

Finally a bit of updating on the incident report:
Low and moderate fire behavior in higher elevations. Slow spread rate surface fire with isolated torching in young planted stands. Lower elevations with marine layers, creeping and smoldering.

...

12 hours: Higher relative humidity recoveries in the lower elevations have moderated fire behavior. Smoldering and creeping with little perimeter movement on the west side. Some surface spread on the East side in heavier fuel concentrations to where recoveries are reduced. Overall lower fire spread in lower elevations, while higher elevations may see a little increase in activity.

24 hours: Higher relative humidity recoveries in the lower elevations have moderated fire behavior. Smoldering and creeping with little perimeter movement on the west side. Some surface spread on the East side in heavier fuel concentrations to where recoveries are reduced. Overall lower fire spread in lower elevations, while higher elevations may see a little increase in activity.

48 hours: Drying trend. Low to Moderate fire behavior. Surface spread, backing, flanking. Isolated torching where wetting rain not received.

72 hours: Drying winds. Moderate to Active fire behavior. Surface spread, backing, flanking. Torching where wetting rain not received on Sep 7. Group torching and spotting possible when conditions have dried out.

Anticipated after 72 hours: Drying winds. Moderate to Active fire behavior. Surface spread, backing, flanking. Torching where wetting rain not received on Sep 7. Group torching and spotting possible when conditions have dried out.
So I guess we just got a few days of mellower activity on my side of the fire. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

pipe up any time....
