There is a narrative constantly being shoved down our throats. I'm staring at the gif file playing there and do not see anything threatening or scary, save hearing where they aren't sure exactly what one or some or all of those colors are indicating.

That red stuff could be shit like corexit and/or other vile toxins being dumped from heavily populated areas. The annual ebb and flow of "ocean deserts" in certain areas could always have been thus, and the migrations of whales would seem to indicate that. It could be a feature of differing depths, looking like those areas are where it is deeper.

So, really, they do this stuff just to act knowledgeable and to leave you wondering and worrying about stuff actual science is only now starting to learn well enough to begin to make positive statements at all.
