They are idiots. Raccoons are aggressive varmints who will kill anything they can gang up in sufficient numbers for the task. Their nests are full of ripped up everything, saturated in shit and piss and the rotting corpses of their relatives and remains of prey. The filth is so intense that people have had to rip out all the boards in affected attics to make the place livable again.
Raccoons dig under your house foundation to build nests, or will enter through any space possible to cause this mayhem. Some will try to break your windows to get in.
They hunt in packs.
You are LUCKY if all they ever do is turn your garbage can into a bloodbath.
