Some ten years ago I had emailed him to ask him what would be wrong with cleaning up our act, even if this anthropogenic global warming thing is bunk. He shot back that nothing would be wrong with that, but that the reason it was being hyped was to institute global taxes, and even if I didn't understand that, he had personal knowledge to confirm it.

It wasn't that I doubted him. It was more that I wondered how he could have personal knowledge, somehow connected to having worked in [I think it was] television. Anyway, whatever it was, I think he was/is right about this. There's just too much goddam sense that is backed up by hard science to keep that "anthropogenic" part in there, except as a minor contributor to an overall pattern of warming and cooling that has more to do with solar activity and volcanism and asteroid hits than carbon dioxide.
