I haven't been there in fifty years, and have regretted ever having to leave for that whole time. It is a precious slice of pristine and peaceful very far out of the way of public scrutiny. Back then, the only road was a heavily used logging road, and if you did not have a radio, you were apt to meet up, bumper to windshield with a logging truck on that road. It was wide enough for one of those, but not for regular vehicles and logging trucks to share it.

My big, silly ass boyfriend chickened out on driving back out. So I manned-up and drove us out. If I had not, he would have had no choice but to get us killed in his effort. Teenagers.

The perfect thing for me would have been to stay there forever, getting my supplies hauled in by the loggers or from helicopter deliveries. Damn, that place was magic. Now it gets to stay that way.

MORE and just this year....

PLUS....

Having attended a Candidates' Night for Del Norte County Supervisors several years ago, I was plenty discouraged about the prospects for our spectacular North Coast, but these news items are cheering me up on that score. The tribes up here are all rich from their casinos now, and can muster the clout to take back the means to our survival, our environment.

Despite all the political pinheads in this state.

pipe up any time....
