Between a number of alternatives: pay through the nose to keep depending on us for everything they have; completely dropping such dependence; getting a grip on the problem of being overrun by military aged men who will NOT fight for them; and, gasp, each rearming for national defense.
They've been coasting on our largess since WWII, to the point where they are scrambling for even the stupidest excuses to get us the fuck over there to punch Putin in the nose for them — WHEN their fear of him is HALLUCINATORY — and they'd've been FAR happier trading with Russia and completely forgetting about our full spectrum dominance.
The ONLY leaders in the EU worth anything to humanity are Orbán and Fico, both of whom see it exactly this way. The rest are COMPLETELY useless, posturing imbecilic agents of evil... a pack of Khlammydia clones.
