We all know that not good people are not, necessarily, murderers, but we also know that — for when and under what circumstances — this murder took place, especially with added disinclination of the police to investigate fully, Sam cannot help but be our prime suspect. You should listen to this and see what you think, but I think his response here shows he's ONLY concerned with not being hassled by the law.
Doesn't actually give a shit about the dead former employee or his mother... whether he did it or had it done or had nothing to do with it beyond being so obviously the first person people would suspect and need to have been thoroughly investigated.
