And maybe the most unforgettable night of my youth. He was just passing through, on his way back to Texas from a rodeo in Santa Rosa where he'd won the bull riding, via the hospital. They'd kept him for a week before they told him he'd won, gave him his $5000 prize money and discharged him.
I'm pretty sure the problem had been that he got hung on his bull rope and flipped onto the bull's horns because he had the most ludicrous cast on his arm — from up cupping his shoulder clear down to the first third of his fingers and propped out at a right angle to his body — and a wrap around his gut from where one horn had ripped him open.
It didn't slow his partying even a little... or his romancing nines to a grinning pulp.
