There are cities who set up their homeless and indigent in their own housing and deliver food to them and pay for their medical coverage. This has resulted in a big savings for the cities that have done it. Salt Lake City... but there are more. I have been advocating that we do this wherever and whenever anyone is homeless or soon to be.
It would prevent suicide. It would prevent all kinds of crime. It would ensure those who are able to get their acts together if given the space do, and ensure those who aren't are not so desperate they resort to crime to stay alive. It reduces the monstrous cost of cops and emergency rooms and jails, etc.
I saves money. It is decent instead of fascist in nature. It raises the quality of life for everyone.
