Too many of my links over the last year have been with the use of a handy url shortener. I wanted it to help me keep my blog aloof from the manipulations of certain web jocks who think they can make a thing out of your thing and other really aggravating realities of life on the tubes.

The other day my handy dandy little browser extension button for it stopped working. I was checking everywhere and kept coming up with error messages and blank pages. The service has a Norway suffix on it. Maybe a power outage? Or a fried server? Whut? You guys! A couple thousand of my blog's links won't work now.

Bad enough the ravages of just about every site you ever link changing the addresses for their stuff, YouBube knocking people off their accounts and shutting them down or them just deciding suddenly their videos ought to be privatized or the information that was at the link when linked being edited to reflect something else entirely for posterity... oh... all kinds of tricks.

I'd never have stopped using ZenTube but for the fact SO many people are deciding to block embedding on their videos. See, they get ad money when you have to go to the video itself, but not when you see it embedded somewhere and that's what ZenTube does. It embeds the video on a nice plain black background and you can watch without ads and distractions from a thousand different directions, but no, that interferes with the progress of capitalism so fuck your need for serenity, monkeys.

Anyway, contrary to my decisive approach to anything aggravating, I decided not to lose my cookies until I could find out what happened to iURL, whether it was history or just experiencing a bad outage. This morning I went back to checking everything that would link there in the old days. Finally, one of those links took me to the news that it's coming back.

It didn't say when. So I'll have to use another until it returns, and everything I linked with it will stay useless to everyone until it returns, but maybe it will return and most of my posts will make sense again to anyone whose brain isn't so lazy it can only lie there, plopped/propped on its pillows, opening its mouth only when the spoon gets near enough.

always and any time....
